Say something about myself….

Gosh I hate these things!

When the bio popped up and asked me to say something about myself, not going to lie, I nearly pressed the X in the right hand corner of my screen and backed out of this whole process. But I didn’t. I didn’t because I know I need to do this. To write my story. For the little girl who started writing stories the moment she could, and for this big girl sitting here now.

So what did I write? I am me, multifaceted, imperfect but perfectly me.

Who am I to other people? Mother, wife, daughter and sister.

What do I do? The word multifaceted comes back to mind. I have so many things that I do and so many more that I want to do. I am a practicing midwife of over 10 years. I also have my own business, Release & Rebuild. That I have built myself over the last 5 years. From my own at home studio, I teach weekly yoga classes, evening workshops and hold space for people in one of my many therapies (birth trauma therapy, wellbeing coaching and bio-energy healing). I also, spend as much time as I can connecting to nature and the spirit of this earth and all the other planets in our amazing universe.

Does this tell you who I am? Probably not. There is so much more to me than these labels that this world tells us we should have.

So back to the little girl version of me. When I was 4, I learned to read, and when I was 6 my writing was good enough for me to finally get the stories I spoke to myself down on the page. I got into trouble more than once in primary school when I didn’t understand the function of the daily dairy book we were to write in. We were supposed to write about day to day activities in that book. Then draw a little picture. Not me though, I would sit and write pages (broken rule number 1), about my squirrel friends, talking trees, wolves, treasure hunts and magic (broken rule number 2). I would then swear blind that these things had actually happened, because in my mind I could see them all so clearly, I really did believe it was all real (broken rule number 3).

I wrote my first “book” at aged 10. It was called The Lost Mouse. And it was about a little mouse who lost her father, and then went on a magical quest to try to find him. In hindsight, this was probably the story of a little girl struggling to process her parents divorce at that time. Writing was how I coped with life then and it is still my main wellbeing practice today.

So why am I here? I am about to have jaw surgery. It’s not a chosen surgery but one that I have to have for my health. Part of the recovery will be that I will lose the ability to clearly speak. I will lose my voice. My relationship with my voice is a long story, one that I will probably explore a lot here. When I was a child, in situations where I didn’t know people, I barely spoke. I learned to stay small and not make a sound. To have no needs, and definitely not to voice them. But as I stand here about to have my voice taken away for awhile, I find myself suddenly clinging to it. Then I realised, I don’t have to let my voice be silenced. I can write it down. So, this is my voice.

Join me as I speak my truth, about all sorts probably. From what is coming up in my life. Psychology. Philosophy. Spirituality. Energetics. Probably some science in there too.

My invitation for you for my first post is to consider your comfort zone. What in your life feels comfortable to you? And what would upset that and leave you feeling all sorts of discomfort? Growth, change and transformation can only happen outside of your comfort zone. So how can you get a little more cosy, comfy and snuggly in your discomfort?
